Santa Letter

Dear Santa,

Athletics Sports Day

Athletics Sports Day

On athletics day it was fun as we had lots of games to play. Athletics day was held on Thursday, the 19th of November 2020. Some of the games were long jump, egg and spoon race, catch the tail, tug of war, sprints, races and some other games.

The first game was an egg and spoon race. We had to walk or run as fast as we could and if we dropped the egg down, then, we were told that we might have to use a potato instead of wasting another egg. I was the first one to go in my group. I was 3rd in the egg and spoon race. After Miss Virginia said to the children, that we would play the same game again but we would play with a potato instead of an egg. But before we started the game, the bell rang. I thought it was morning tea time. But how could it be morning tea time? Because it was early morning. I then realised that the bell rang for us to go to the next game. So, my team moved to the next game which was long jump.

At long jump we had to take our socks and shoes off and put them to one side. Then we formed one line and all the children had to run and then jump as far as they could into the sand. I think that I was the only one who did a little jump and I did it only twice because I do not like my feet touching sand and grass, so I asked one of the teachers if I could put my socks and shoes on. The teacher said yes, so thatś how I did it. Just as I was putting my socks and shoes on, the bell rang again so the other children also put their socks and shoes, and then we all went to the next game.

The next game was catch the tail. You have to put a black belt around your waist and then put a blue belt behind your back. After you have done that, the person who is catching the tails has to get as many of the tails in the time. If your tail is pulled out, you stay still then the teacher says that we can catch tails too. So  we ran to catch other children’s tails. I got three tails. The bell rang again to go to the next game.

The next game was the bean bag throw. You had to toss three bean bags into the buckets. The first time I tossed the three beanbags I got all three in one bucket. I was happy that I got all three bean bags in one bucket. After each of us did the beanbag toss, we had to go to the back of the line. The 2nd and 3rd time, I only got one or two bean bags out of the bucket. 

The bell rang again. I thought it was time to go to the next game. I went with some children to the next game. But the teacher said that it was morning tea time. I also saw my friends coming that way, so I walked up to them and asked them how their sports day was so far. 

At morning tea time I played with my friends. We climbed up a tree but one of my friends didn't because she found it hard. Then we all walked around and played some games together. After some time, the bell rang so me and my friends went back and waited for our group to go to the next game. The next game was skipping and running races.

At skipping race we had to skip to the other side of the yellow line. We had to take another person and skip to the other side with the person and then we leave them on the other side of the yellow line. After all of us finished the relay, we waited for  Miss Heimuli to say your patron can come back. After we did that we did some running, I think it was a practice run. Again we skipped to the yellow line and back three more times. The bell rang again and then my team went to the next game which was the three-legged race.

At three legend race I was wondering why it was called the three-legged race because it was like a four-legged race, but I will go with three legged-race. So at three legend race we had to take a person the same height as you. I was with Sierra and we won four times in a row. The bell rang again so me and my team went to the next game. The next game was the sack race.

At the sack race we had put our legs into a potato sack and jump race in the sack, then give it to the person on the other side. I jumped up and down to the other side but I did not have a person to swap with, so I just jumped to the other side. The bell rang again to go to the next game which was the gumboot throw.

At gumboot throw we had to throw a gumboot as far as we could. The big children used big gumboots and little children used little gumboots. We had to make a group of three. The bell rang again for lunch time. After lunch, the bell rang for us to go back to my team.

The last game was sprints and tug-of-war. At sprints one of the teacher called  the children who are running in the race. After the sprints we had tug-of-war between the different houses. My house won tug of war and all so my house got to play tug

of war with the whole staff in the school. We also got to play tug of war with the parents with the children who wanted to play tug of war.

I loved athletics and it was so fun. The games I liked the most were tug of war, egg and spoon race, three legged race, long jump and the bean bag throw.

Getting lost in the forest  

Once upon a time, there lived a couple in a small city. The place was called Star City. They were really rich and they had two daughters. 

The first daughter's name was Rachel and the other daughter´s name was Emma. 

One day the family went on a plane to meet their grandma. They got on the plane. When they were flying in the sky, the plane got struck by lightning and fell on some trees in a forest. It was a miracle that the family was not  injured and was the only one who survived from  the tragedy. The other people on the plane died. 

The family was looking to see if there was a way out of the forest. They walked deeper into the forest to see if there was a warm place to rest. They did not know where to go. They were really hungry so they ate the berries from the trees and drank water from a nearby stream. 

The next day the family saw a man passing by. The man stopped and said to them ¨Are you lost?¨.

In a sad voice they said  ¨Yes¨.  They did not know that the man was actually a wolf dressed up in a man's clothing. The wolf guided the family to a lonely spot in the forest because he wanted to eat them up one by one. At the spot the wolf removed his clothes and revealed himself. On seeing the wolf, Rachel and Emma screamed loudly. A passing hunter heard their cries and came to save the family. The hunter removed his gun and shot the wolf ¨Bang! Bang!¨ The wolf fell to the ground and died.   

The hunter guided the family out of the forest. He called for a rescue helicopter to take Rachel, Emma and their parents back home. The family thanked the hunter very much. They reached home safely. The family called up Grandma and told her all that had happened. Grandma was happy to hear that her family was alive and safe.

How does the weather affect people?

Weather affects us in a huge number of ways. Climate influences the growth of crops, thus affecting the availability and kind of food we eat. Fluctuations in weather (e.g. dry spells, wet spells) also affect crops. Weather affects what clothes we wear, and so on.

These are my thoughts on "What is science?". I am learning more and more about science with each passing day.

Jigsaw Task-Yeast Balloon

Jigsaw Task. 

This experiment is all jumbled. Your job is to put the experiment in order,  in a format that is clear
and logical. Just like what we do in class. You are to copy and paste this experiment in the
correct order. The  method is even jumbled

Title: Yeast Balloon

Aim

To explore the reaction when yeast is mixed with sugar and warm water to blow up a balloon.

Hypothesis

I think the balloon will blow up because yeast is used to make things rise. 

Equipment

300ml warm water

A packet of dry yeast

A spoon

A pitcher

Sugar

A small soda bottle

A balloon

Method

Pour 300mls of water into a bowl. 

Add a packet of dry yeast and add two tablespoons of sugar, and stir the mixture until the
yeast and the sugar has dissolved. 

Pour the mixture into the drinks bottle.

Warm up the balloon with your hands. To soften the rubber more, grip the ends of the
balloon and stretch it. 

Stretch the open end of the balloon over the neck of the bottle. Make sure it is pulled down over
the screw threads on the top of the bottle to prevent air from leaking.

Leave the bottle upright with the balloon fitted for one hour, then check the result!

Leave the balloon undisturbed overnight. In the morning the balloon will be even bigger! 

Results

I discovered that within ten minutes the balloon blew up. It blew up to the size of a cricket ball. 

Conclusion

The yeast needs sugar and water to activate it and it begins to respire (breathe). As it does this,
it creates the gas carbon dioxide, which is what blows up the balloon. Yeast is what we use to
make bread rise, so it is a very important little creature!

Baptism

I learned about the seven sacraments today Baptism is the first sacrament. All other sacraments follow after Baptism. For example, you cannot get married in Church, if you are not Baptised.
