Good Friday Service

                        Good Friday Service at Christ The King Church

Good Friday is about the crucifixion and death of Jesus Christ. It was on this day that Christ was arrested and executed. Good Friday is considered Holy because on this day, Jesus Christ gave his life as a sacrifice for us. He  suffered for the sins of people. Good Friday is observed by us Christians as a day of fasting.

I went to church for the 3.00pm service. The cross at the altar and Mother Mary’s statue were covered with a purple cloth. Father Benedict wore a red cassock. The priests, altar servers and readers entered the Church in silence. The Church was packed with people. Mum, Dad and I got some seats to sit. 

Father Benedict gave a lovely sermon about the pain Jesus experienced on the cross. It is very painful to be hanging on a cross. When Jesus was thirsty, the soldiers gave him some vinegar to drink. Jesus said on the cross “Father forgive them for they know not what they are doing”. 

All of us stood for a long time in Church on Good Friday during the readings. We heard the Passion of the Lord reading. At the end of the Good Friday service all the people stood in line to kneel before and touch the cross as a sign of respect. 

The lesson I learnt from Good Friday is that Jesus loves us very much and that’s why he died on the cross for us. Jesus walks with us every step of the way. He will never leave us. I love you Jesus.
